My Old Man

A woman stopped by our house yesterday, and climbed
the steps to our porch
I saw her as I walked by the window, and greeted her at the door
She said, “Go stir up your old man: hadn’t seen him in a while;
In fact, the last time I saw him was when you were just a child.
Her name was “Condemnation” and she didn’t want to come in,
She only talked about the past, and wanted to rouse “the old man.”
I asked why she wanted to see him for it had been so long:
Her words were sharp and uncaring, and her reasoning was wrong.
Said she remembered how bad he was, and wondered
if he had changed.
“Or is he the same sorry loser?” I cried when she talked that way.
The woman looked shocked when I told her, my old man moved away.
I told her I had gotten married, and I’ve taken on a new name.
She told me that didn’t matter and said, ”You still look like him;
Besides, the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree, and
neither does the limb.”
She laughed and laughed as she turned away, and
drove off in her car:
Condemnation left such an awful wound, I was sure it
would leave a scar;
But when I called up the old man to tell him all she had said,
The operator came on the phone and told me, “Ma’am,
your old man is dead.”
She asked, “Didn’t you wonder where he was on your Wedding Day?
It’s because he died that afternoon, and they laid him in the grave!”
No one had told me that, I had to find out on my own:
But, maybe now I can get a fresh start and hope the old man’s
friends leave me alone.

If you have been “born again by the Spirit of GOD” like GOD said to be in John 3:1-17, a beautiful promise from Him is yours that says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new!” That means, your
“old man” is dead. Hallelujah, Amen!
